This DC Comics Stargirl cosplay costume was made by professional costume designers trying to recreate it as closely as possible to the original and reproduces the one worn in the miniseries Stargirl from Courtney. Stargirl is an American television series based on the DC Comics character Stargirl created by Geoff Johns. The first season of the series aired from May 18, 2020 in the United States on the DC Universe streaming service. The episodes of Stargirl are also broadcast on television on The CW, the following day after the release via streaming. Prior to the pilot episode of the series, Stargirl's characters were included in the Arrowverse, but live on post-crisis Earth-2. On July 6, 2020, the series was renewed for a second season, effectively becoming an original series of The CW. The second season, titled "Summer School" is broadcast in the United States, on The CW, from 10 August 2021.

In May 2021, the series was renewed for a third season, entitled "Frenemies", scheduled for 2022.

Courtney Elizabeth Whitmore, better known as Courtney Whitmore, is a fictional character, a superheroine known by the Stargirl's name in the DC Universe. Originally known as the second Star-Spangled Kid, she has used Stargirl's identity ever since she was presented with the Cosmic Scepter by Jack Knight. The character was a creation of Geoff Johns, who said he based her personality on that of his sister, also named Courtney, who died in the 1996 explosion of Trans World Airlines Flight 800. Johns has always been a fan of Captain Carrot and the Zoo Squad and Courtney's original costume was modeled similarly to that of Crew member Yankee Poodle; in the comic, it was explained by Courtney herself, that she is also a fan of Yankee Poodle, another character from the DC Universe.
